The Profound Impact of Each Patient

I would like to share with you what it is like for me as a psychologist to work with my patients.

Let’s start with this beautiful video (and in fact it was sent to me by a patient of mine and I got so emotional, honestly it makes me cry every time I watch it).

The video is just a fictional story and it’s a lovely one! It’s all about how important it is for patients to feel safe and relaxed in therapy, to be able to share their innermost thoughts and feelings. When people feel safe and supported, they are much more open and ready to make progress.

The learning journey in psychotherapy

Every patient who comes to my clinic brings a unique story, perspective and set of challenges. As their therapist, we embark on a profound learning journey with each individual. The therapeutic process is not a one-size-fits-all approach; it requires us to continually adapt, learn and grow. And endless hours of study and supervision to ensure that I am providing the best possible treatment. Each session offers new insights into thoughts, backgrounds, human behaviour, emotions and resilience.

The intimacy of the therapeutic setting

Psychotherapy is by nature intimate. I work hard to create a safe space where patients can express their deepest fears, hopes and experiences. This environment of trust and confidentiality is essential for effective therapy. As therapists, we are privileged to witness and support our patients’ personal growth – I feel honoured to be part of each journey. This intimacy fosters a strong therapeutic alliance, which is fundamental to the healing process.

Connecting on a deeper level

The connection between therapist and patient is more than professional; it’s a human connection that transcends traditional roles – it’s a relationship. We look beyond symptoms and diagnoses to understand the person as a whole. I hear stories that no one else hears. This deep connection allows us to empathise, support and guide our patients more effectively. Through active listening and genuine engagement, we build relationships that are therapeutic in themselves.

Commitment to each patient

Commitment is at the heart of psychotherapy. I am deeply committed to the wellbeing of every person who come to me for help. This commitment includes not only our time and expertise, but also our emotional presence. I constantly seek ways to improve my skills and keep abreast of the latest research in order to provide the best possible care.

Favourite moments in psychotherapy

There are countless moments in psychotherapy that leave a lasting impression on a therapist’s heart. One such moment stands out vividly, a testament to the profound impact of the therapeutic process and the incredible resilience of the patient. All their victories are mine and we celebrate each and every one of them.

I just love it when I see people laughing, celebrating and sharing jokes, stories, pictures and more. It’s so rewarding to know that I can be there for someone emotionally and help to make their life better.
